Dr. Perry C. Hanavan

Perry C. Hanavan, Au.D., teaches in the Communication Disorders program at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD. He has presented numerous hearing technology related topics at ASHA, AAA, Academy of Rehabilitative Audiology Summer Institutes, Midwest Conference on Deaf Education and HLAA Conventions. He currently serves on the Audiology Awareness Campaign Executive Board.

This presentation focuses on new and emerging digital hearing assistive technologies (HAT) that provide hearing access in the classroom, home and other listening environments for infants and children with hearing loss. New digital HAT for both hearing aids and implant devices will be examined including Bluetooth microphones, made for iphone (Mfi) compatible hearing aids and implants and how they provide hearing access. Federal laws accommodating HAT in educational settings for students deaf/hard of hearing (IDEA, 504 and ADA) will be reviewed.
