Valli Gideons

Gideons is an author, military spouse, and mother of two thriving teens who were born with hearing loss. With a degree in journalism, her work has reached millions of people across multiple platforms.

Her children's book, "Now Hear This: Harper soars with her Magic Ears," is a story about her daughter's hearing loss journey, which they co-authored. In her newest book designed for parents, "Through the Fog: Navigating life's challenges while raising kids with hearing loss," she shares her personal experience of how she moved through grief and came to a place of acceptance.

With an engaged community, made up of parents and leaders in the field of the deaf and hard of hearing, she is passionate about her role as advocate.

When she’s not writing or watching her kids play sports, you can find her walking her two rescue dogs along the beach path.


Keynote

One family’s journey, navigating raising two kids who have hearing loss & what they discovered along the way.

Participants will learn:

  1. How important it is to process in goal feelings in order to come to place of acceptance.
  2. There is no one way to parent a child who is deaf or hard of hearing. Participants will learn about the various options and strategies for creating a personal path forward.
  3. Participants will learn how to help kids who are deaf or hard of hearing develop ways to advocate for themselves.

 

Break-out Session:

How to help your child who is deaf or hard of hearing become confident & capable - from a mom of two teens perspective.

Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn ways to teach advocacy skills to their child.
  2. Participants will learn importance of mindset and expectations.
  3. Participants will create action items for implementing advocacy strategies.
